The Windfall
I got a letter in the mail today from an East Coast lawyer. I opened it and read it and it said that I had a distant cousin who died a very wealthy man. He talked about all kinds of weird financial stuff and I saw the phrase “annuity payments” several times, then when I was finished with the letter I had to look that term up. It was pretty easy to understand and I even looked up a couple of other terms that I’ve wanted to learn the definition of. Then I went back to reading the letter.
It also mentioned something about receiving cash for structured settlement. My sister is an attorney so I gave her a call because I didn’t understand what this letter was really telling me about. I read her part of it over the phone and she basically said that I was going to be receiving a huge windfall of money, and when she said that I just about passed out from happiness. Then I called my girlfriend and told her the good news. She came over right away and we decided to have a nice dinner. As we dined on filet mignon I explained to her about the cash for structured settlement payments that I was going to be receiving.
